Tinkering!

Hello once again..

 Nothing much to say really apart from having updated the screenshots in the previous posts seeing as I accidentally deleted them. But yes, the q4dm is getting ever closer to completion but still requires some heavy optimization work to make sure it runs like a baby’s bottom. Um, by that I meant smooth..

I have however also been tinkering (see title) with the idea of a quick and easy quake-one-deathmatch-map. Yep.. you heard me! This idea came upon me when seeing this. So I’ve been lobbing some layouts about, back and forth from myself to the ever helpful bambuz, so that he can tell me that I need “more trick jumps and mega launch ramps for stylish tricks and such”. I shall naturally keep everyone posted with numerous screenies and an open alpha/beta nearer the time. Until then, goodnight.

System Failure

Well I’m at work but can’t really do too much as our system’s currently down.. I’m hoping that it’ll be down for the rest of the day as I’m not in for the rest of the week. Instead I’ll be wading through gallons of mud and enjoying a satisfyingly large portion of music at the delightful Reading Festival! I am however sad as today is my good friend Cesare’s last day of work *sob* and he will be sorely missed as he goes off to uni for partyfun and girls!

In the meantime I’ve been working a little more on my CS:Source map and trying to detail the cave area that I was previously working on. As always it’s still very wip and the awful lightbeam will hopefully be replaced by a more subtle model. Enjoy!

Two updates in a week? No way!

It’s late, and I’m about to hit the sack but I thought I’d pop up a couple more screenies of my mappage. First one is a small sneaky dropdown section and the other is the basement area which I haven’t actually worked on in ages. Both sections need alot of detailing and some colour to bring them to life but I’m pretty happy with how the layout is coming together. Top notch shizzle. Anyway I need to watch some more amazing Transformers cartoons now to send me off to sleep. Ahh, childhood memories!

 

Annual Update!

Well, as it’s been such a long time since I last updated anything on this beloved page I thought it was about time I gave a little update on what I’ve been working on. My Q4Dm is starting to shape up quite nicely and I’ve been messing about with lighting ideas but to little avail. Brushwise though it’s coming together slowly but surely. Here’s a screenie of a small bit that I do quite like though!

Ahoy all! Just a quick post to let all of you know that I haven’t abandoned my adorable site but have actually just been busy with actual paying work! Not quite level design as planned but something to pay the bills in the meantime. Unfortunately it hasn’t left me too much time to be able to map but I have started a new little something for Quake 4 and will be posting screenies as soon as the layout is complete. At the mo it’s a little basic but is designed to be a small 1v1 map that plays with a real cat&mouse feel of shooting, running and hiding. Anyways, I best get back to work now, until next time!

Well, as you can probably tell from the title of this post that I’m not doing anything I’m enjoying job-wise. In fact, I’d go as far as saying it was crap. I’m temping for an agency and despite saying I wanted PC based admin or I.T work, I’ve somehow managed to end up filing roughly 3000 boxes’ files into numerical order for peanuts… and I don’t even like peanuts!

Well, thanks to the gorgeous Vondur my site is looking better than ever. I’ve finished adding all my maps and WIP shizzle and the site now properly works in both Opera and Firefox browsers whereas previously it only worked right in IE. I’ve also been sending off a new portfolio to various companies and hoping for some feedback. NEED JOB! If any passing games developer reads this, hit me up an e-mail brah! Anywho, that’s about all for now… basically just posting things every few days to prove a point to Von.. Ahem.

Well, I’ve been working on my site quite a bit and it’s slowly but surely coming together. The maps page is now up and fairly operational. There’s some bits missing from it but most of it should be working I hope. Gonna start putting up work in progress pages for some maps I’m currently making for people to have a gander. Soon my pretties, soon.

Well hello there!

For everyone who doesn’t know me, my name is Dan ‘cardo’ Shannon, and I make levels for 3D games.
